Pyeongchang (평창), a county of Gangwon Province located around 3 hours’ by car and 1 hour 45 min to Jinbu station by KTX from Seoul. It known as the winter destination because of its snow covered landscape during winter. The vast ski slopes and fairy tale-looking resorts continue to draw visitors today. It is indeed an excellent place for winter vacation especially nowadays when climate at Seoul and incheon is hard to see snow coming. Actually not only in winter, summer in Korea is the way too hot and Pyeongchang is worth checking out, especially for those who would like to explore beyond Seoul and escape the summer heat since pyeongchang known for 6-7 degrees lower than Seoul even in the summer.
There are lot of sheep ranches that you might want to check while in Pyeongchang. All of them are open for public even in the winter. I have seen many winter picture and at the day of first snow it was magical! all of them covered in white snow ohhh so beautiful. The sheep ranches that are open for public visits in Daegwallyeong are Yangtte Sheep Farm (양떼 목장), Samyang Sheep Farm (삼양 목장) and Sky Sheep Farm (하늘 목장). For this post, i’ll be talking about Yangtte Sheep Farm, and I’ll definitely visit the samyang and haneul hopefully in the future.
Yangtte Sheep Farm is started at 1988 as South Korea’s first and the only ranch that raises sheep. It became popular after dramas and commercial shots that taken here. If you visit during summer, you can see all the sheep scattered at slope and see the grassing while during winter most of the time they will be at the barn and you would be able to gave them dried grass and touch them.
It is not exactly convenient to go to the farm using public transport, but it is possible. When we went there we used ktx from seoul to jinbu and since we stayed at alpensia resort we used taxi to went there around 15000 krw but if you came from seoul you can take an intercity bus to Hoenggye (횡계) Intercity Bus Terminal then take a red colour shuttle bus to the farm, or take a taxi to Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm (12,000 krw)
